Global industry integration intensifies, Dow wants to divest its agrochemical business
According to the report of [World agrochemical network], Dow Chemical announced the company's sales performance in the third quarter last week. Its agrochemical business contributed $1.2 billion in sales, down $200 million from the same period last year. Then Dow Chemical announced that the company intends to sell its wholly-owned subsidiary Dow Yinong, which means that Dow Yinong may become an independent company or be acquired by competitors in the next few years.
According to the report of the Wall Street Journal, at the company meeting held on Thursday, Andrew Liveris, CEO of Dow Chemical, disclosed a series of measures to reshape the company's business, including the sale of the company's agrochemical business. Liveris said that the integration of the global agrochemical industry has intensified, and now is the right time to sell. The board of directors of Dow Chemical has been considering the future development of agrochemical business in recent years. Recently, Monsanto proposed to acquire Syngenta, which opened the acquisition discussion among some large agrochemical companies.
However, at present, Dow has no intention to sell. It is reported that this is not the first time Dow Chemical wants to spin off its agrochemical business. The company put forward similar ideas as early as 2009, but it did not realize them in the end.
